Solar Plexus Chakra: Resilience and Perseverance

A Kashmir Shaivism Perspective on Inner Strength, Steadiness, and the Power to Rise Again

    8 min readResilience & Perseverance

In the classical chakra system, the Solar Plexus Chakra governs personal power, discipline, resilience, and the ability to persevere through challenges. It is seen as the center where we cultivate inner strength, where we deepen our Self-belief in the face of difficulty, and where we embrace the capacity to rise again after setbacks. Yet when viewed through the lens of Kashmir Shaivism, this center may become the seat of the unwavering Self, the place where the inner fire of consciousness recognizes itself as indestructible.

Inspired by the Pratyabhijñā tradition, we suggest that resilience may be seen as the natural expression of the deeper Self that cannot be harmed, diminished, or broken. Perseverance may be seen as the act of facing our fears and obstacles and meeting them from a place of knowing. By devoting ourselves to aligning with Self, meeting these contractions, truth may unfold and the fears and obstacles may dissolve. We suggest that strength in this way comes from our knowing: to move through challenges from a place of inner stability rather than through force.

Guided by the philosophical lens of Kashmir Shaivism, we suggest that the Solar Plexus Chakra may become distorted when we forget this deeper truth. When we believe that setbacks define us. When we collapse in the face of failure. When we fear uncertainty. When we lose trust in our ability to navigate life. In this state, resilience may become fragile, and perseverance may become inconsistent.

But when the Solar Plexus Chakra is aligned with the Self, resilience may become the natural expression of inner stability. Perseverance may become devotion to what is true. Challenges may become opportunities for expansion. Setbacks may become invitations to deepen trust in Self. We begin to recognize that the same consciousness that creates the universe is the consciousness that moves through us.

    The Data of Inquiry

Three Dimensions of Resilience and Perseverance

Your assessment responses are aimed to reveal how your Solar Plexus energy expresses itself across three dimensions. These dimensions may help you understand how consciousness is currently expressing its strength and resilience through you.

Dimension One: Recovery, Adaptability, and Emotional Stability

    Assessment questions:

    • I recover quickly from disappointments or setbacks.
    • I adapt flexibly when plans change.
    • I remain light-hearted and grounded in stressful situations.
    • I can deal with uncertainty without feeling overwhelmed.
    • I manage my energy in a way that allows me to handle long-term projects.

This dimension is aimed to reflect your relationship with recovery and adaptability. Inspired by Kashmir Shaivism, we suggest that Self-nourishment may happen when we rest in our true nature. The deeper Self is never damaged by experience. It remains whole, steady, and luminous. When we rest in this recognition, recovery may become natural and easy.

Adaptability may arise when we trust the intelligence of life. When we recognize that change is not a threat but a movement of Śakti. Emotional stability may arise when we are not identified with the fluctuations of the mind.

When this dimension is weak, setbacks may feel overwhelming. Change may feel threatening. Stress may become destabilizing. Uncertainty may become frightening. Energy may become inconsistent.

Dimension Two: Perseverance, Devotion, and the Capacity to Continue

    Assessment questions:

    • I keep the promises I make to myself.
    • I do not give up when I encounter an obstacle.
    • I can sustain long periods of effort without losing motivation.
    • I persist even when results take a long time to appear.
    • I continue to have self-belief, even after multiple setbacks.
    • I see every challenge as an opportunity to grow.

This dimension is aimed to reveal your relationship with perseverance and devotion. Nourished by the insights of the Kashmir Shaivism view, we suggest that perseverance may be seen as our devotion to Self. We see it as the willingness to continue walking your path even when the outcome is uncertain, trusting in the unfoldment.

When this dimension is strong, you keep your promises to yourself. You can continue even when the path is difficult. You can sustain effort without collapsing. You can trust your ability to rise again. You can see challenges as invitations to deepen your strength.

When this dimension is weak, perseverance may become inconsistent. You may give up easily. You may lose motivation when results are slow. You may doubt your ability to continue. You may collapse in the face of difficulty.

Dimension Three: Learning, Growth, and the Courage to Engage

    Assessment questions:

    • I see challenges as learning experiences rather than failures.
    • I dare to make mistakes and learn from them instead of getting stuck.
    • I ask for help when I feel stuck.
    • I focus on solutions rather than problems.
    • I welcome feedback as a doorway to deeper understanding.
    • I maintain mental strength during major changes.

This dimension is aimed to reflect your relationship with growth and learning. Touched by the nondual teachings of Kashmir Shaivism, we suggest to see mistakes not as failures, but as movements of Śakti that reveal where we are still identified with limitation. In this way feedback does not have to be seen as a threat, but as an opportunity to deepen clarity. Asking for help when feeling stuck is not seen as weakness, but as a sign of Self-care and standing up for oneself.

When this dimension is strong, you can learn from challenges. You can make mistakes without collapsing. You can ask for support. You can focus on solutions. You can remain mentally strong during change.

When this dimension is weak, mistakes may feel threatening. Feedback may feel like an attack. Asking for help may feel shameful. Problems may feel overwhelming. Change may feel challenging to navigate.

    Philosophical Introduction

Resilience as the Expression of the Unbreakable Self

In Kashmir Shaivism, as we understand it, the Self (Śiva) is understood as pure I-consciousness: a reality that is both unchanging in essence and ever-changing in expression. It is the infinite ground of awareness and, at the same time, the dynamic play of all energies (Śakti).

This Self is pūrṇatā: complete, full, and vibrant with every power of consciousness. It is unity appearing as diversity, the infinite manifesting as the finite, without ever ceasing to be whole. As the unchanging ground, the Self remains steady, luminous, and undivided. As the changing expression, it unfolds as every thought, emotion, and experience. Both aspects are equally real, equally sacred, and inseparable.

From this perspective, we may see resilience as the innate stability of our true nature, the Self that remains unbroken even as it freely expresses itself through the shifting currents of life. We see the Solar Plexus Chakra as the energetic center where this recognition becomes embodied: where we may deepen trust in our inner strength, where we remember our ability to rise again, where we may align with the indestructible nature of the Self that cannot be harmed.

Practical Supportive Suggestions for Resilience and Perseverance

These practices may help you reconnect with your inner strength and cultivate steady perseverance.

    1. The Time Stamp

When you begin a new project that feels meaningful and aligned with your inner truth, it may be helpful to set a clear timeframe for your commitment. For example, choose a point 12 months in the future and devote yourself fully to the project until then. Give yourself that period to work on it, explore it, and allow it to unfold without prematurely judging the outcome. During those months, whenever doubts arise or you move through a challenging phase, you can remind yourself that you have already committed to this exploration. After the time period, there comes a moment of reflection where you can decide whether or not you would like to proceed. This approach may help you keep moving forward without becoming overly focused on outcomes or discouraged when progress takes time.

    2. The Resilience Reflection

After a challenge, ask yourself: "What did this reveal about my inner strength and resilience?" This may help in reframing experienced difficulty as an opportunity for growth.

    3. The Consistency Ritual

Instead of trying to push yourself as hard and as fast as possible, we suggest focusing on consistency. Creating a rhythm that feels nourishing and sustainable, one that includes both activity and rest. Setting aside dedicated time to work on your project, emphasizing showing up regularly rather than setting high expectations or demanding immediate results. Some days you may have the space for a few hours of deep work; other days it may only be a few minutes. What matters is that you keep returning to it without overstretching yourself. This steady, gentle commitment may build momentum over time.

    4. The Solution Shift

When facing a problem, we suggest to write down three possible solutions. This may help you to move toward clarity rather than collapse when faced with challenges.

    Addressing the Root Cause

The Veils Behind Solar Plexus Contraction

We argue that Solar Plexus challenges may arise from stuck emotions, misaligned belief systems, samskaras and essentially the three malas. When the malas are active, we may identify with the limited self. We may believe we are fragile. We may believe we can be broken. We may believe we are defined by our failures. This forgetfulness may weaken resilience and undermine perseverance.

Āṇava-Mala: Impurity of Individuality, which may cause a limited perception of our wholeness

This veil may create an experience in which we perceive limited inner strength and limited capacity to recover. Resilience may not feel like a natural quality of who we are, but may feel like something we may or may not possess.

Māyīya-Mala: Impurity of Differentiation, which may cause a limited perception of our underlying unity

This veil may create an experience in which we perceive limited support from others and from life itself. The sense of being held by something greater may feel distant rather than recognized as always present.

Kārma-Mala: Impurity of Action, which may cause a limited perception of the auspicious unfolding

This veil may create an experience in which we perceive limited trust in the auspicious nature of what unfolds. Perseverance may feel challenging when the natural direction of life may not be recognized as inherently supportive.

We suggest to see the patterns that have arisen from these limited perceptions as reflections of what we carry within us. They may be seen as Samskaras, stuck emotions and misaligned beliefs, waiting to be recognized. When met and embraced from a place of knowing, unconditional love and acceptance, they may stream again and dissolve.

    The Four Pathways of Support

How Chakralytics Aims to Help You Cultivate Inner Strength

    1. Chakralytics Self-Assessment Tool

Chakras are commonly known as seven main energy centers that shape our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. While interpretations vary across traditions, we find that this sevenfold framework may offer a powerful lens for self-awareness and energetic harmonization. Chakralytics seeks to honor and adapt this ancient system for contemporary self-awareness and energetic insight.

By intuitive self-assessments, Chakralytics generates a dynamic snapshot of your chakra system, according to the Chakralytics Framework. From root to crown. In this way you may discover which centers are thriving, which may need attention, and how your energy evolves over time. Each individual Chakra Assessment focuses on three major themes of our lived experience.

    2.

The Chakra Sadhana Course provides a twice daily ritual designed to move this stuck energy. Through devotion, self-love and acceptance and targeted visualization, you are invited to embrace and dissolve contractions, stuck emotions, samskaras and misaligned belief systems, and remember your inner strength, inner stability, and your capacity to persevere.

    3.

We have curated a Garden of Teachings, a selection of books that explain the non-dual nature of existence from mostly a Kashmir Shaivism perspective. We might suggest works such as Tantra Illuminated, The Recognition Sutras, Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam, and The Doctrine of Vibration. Each of these texts may help with deepening the understanding that your true nature is already whole, complete, and safe.

    4. 1-to-1 Coaching

Personal guidance with the aim to help become Self-empowered in navigating challenges, deepening your ability to be resilient, and stay aligned with your inner truth.

    Closing Reflection

Drawing insight from Self-understanding, chakra psychology and Kashmir Shaivism, we suggest to see resilience and perseverance as natural expressions of your true nature when the Solar Plexus Chakra is free from contraction. When you recognize your inherent strength, recovery may become natural. When you trust your inner truth, perseverance may become devotion. When you align with the deeper Self, challenges may become opportunities for expansion.
