A Kashmir Shaivism Inspired Perspective on Love in Action and the Open Heart in Relationship
Inspired by the 7-chakra system, we suggest that the Heart Chakra governs our capacity to unconditionally Self-Love and Self-accept. Where we may experience all as an expression of Self and accepting all these aspects of experience. Referring to pūrṇatā: our all embracing fullness. It is the center where we may deepen our ability to embrace our Self and our inner worth, experiencing a deep inner peace, harmony and authenticity. It governs our emotional balance, our ability to set healthy emotional boundaries. Rooted in the Kashmir Shaivism tradition, relationships are understood not merely as social bonds but as sacred encounters: mirrors in which consciousness may recognize itself.
The Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra, one of the central texts of the Kashmir Shaivism tradition, describes how every experience, including the experience of being in relationship, may become a doorway to the recognition of our true nature. Mark Dyczkowski mentions in his lecture on the history and context of the Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra, that Devotion is the investigation and profound reflection of your own essence nature. When we meet another person from this place of genuine Self-awareness, what we see in them may become a reflection of what we hold within.
When we experience contractions in the Heart Chakra, we may start using love as a strategy for safety rather than as an expression of fullness. When we give love hoping to receive security in return. When we suppress our true needs to avoid conflict. When we hold resentment that closes the Heart and makes genuine connection difficult. In this state, relationships may feel draining, unbalanced, or like a constant negotiation between fear and longing.
When the Heart Chakra is aligned with its true nature, love may flow freely. We may give without expecting a specific return. We may receive without fear. We may set boundaries from clarity. We may allow vulnerability as a form of strength rather than a risk to manage. We may experience what the tradition calls Shiva-Shakti: the meeting of two expressions of the same consciousness in mutual recognition.
This article explores Harmonious Relationships and Balance through the Heart Chakra using the Chakralytics framework. It integrates ancient Tantric insight, Kashmir Shaivism philosophy, Somatic research, Chakra psychology and lived experience aimed to offer grounded and practical insights toward relationships that nourish rather than deplete.
Three Dimensions of the Heart Chakra, Harmonious Relationships and Balance, Energy Landscape
Your assessment responses within the theme of Harmonious Relationships and Balance are aimed to reveal how your Heart energy expresses itself across three dimensions. These dimensions may help you understand how love is currently moving or contracting through your relational life.
Assessment questions:
This dimension is aimed to reveal how freely you express your authentic Self in relationship, how openly you offer love without conditions, and how willing you are to release the contractions of resentment through forgiveness. We suggest to see vulnerability not as a weakness. It is the willingness to be seen as you are. This openness is the precondition for genuine encounter.
Forgiveness from this perspective is not seen as a moral duty. It is seen as a form of inner freedom. When we carry resentment, we are keeping the Heart Chakra in a state of contraction. Choosing forgiveness may dissolve this contraction not for the sake of the other but for our own return to openness. Mark Dyczkowski, in The Doctrine of Vibration, points to Spanda, the divine pulse, as the natural movement of consciousness between contraction and expansion. Forgiveness may be one of the direct ways to support this return to expansion.
Assessment questions:
This dimension aims to reveal how clearly you honor both your own boundaries and those of others, and how truthfully you communicate from the heart. Honest and loving communication from the heart may be seen as a form of sacred expression. In Kashmir Shaivism, the Great Goddess within the Trika school is called Parā. Parā is also short for Parā-vāk: The Supreme Word. In Tantra Illuminated, Christopher Wallis dives into the importance of speech from a Trika perspective: "She is seen as the deep structure of reality, the organic pattern of consciousness. This points toward the most unique feature of the Trika's doctrine of practice: a complex and beautiful system of linguistic mysticism, whereby the phonemes of human speech (especially Sanskrit, the paradigmatic language) are thought to be the concretizations of patterned vibrations of divine energy that are the foundation for all human thought and simultaneously, the building blocks of the entire manifest universe."
Boundaries in this context are not seen as walls that separate. They are the natural expressions of Self-awareness: the recognition of what feels aligned and what does not. When we communicate our needs clearly, we honor both our own truth and the relational field. Trusting the heart's intuition in decisions reflects the Heart Chakra's connection to a form of knowing that goes deeper than analysis: what Christopher Wallis in Tantra Illuminated describes as Pratibhā, which simultaneously means "intuitive insight," "creative inspiration," and "natural instinct."
Assessment questions:
This dimension aims to reveal how freely love moves through your actions, choices, and relational field. Actions guided by love rather than fear reflect a Heart Chakra that has recognized its fullness. When we operate from this open Heart we may experience that anything can be for a blessing. We may experience that reality is intrinsically auspicious (Shiva), as Christopher Wallis describes in Tantra Illuminated: "Not in the sense of good versus bad, rather in the sense that anything can be for a blessing, and every experience offers itself to you as a guru, teaching you something about the deeper pattern."
When we live from this recognition, we may experience all life encounters as meaningful. Accepting experiences and people as they are without trying to change them reflects a profound shift to the Heart's capacity to recognize and meet what is. This meeting may serve as Self-reflection. Actively recognizing that each person is already an expression of the same consciousness, walking their own path of recognition. If we feel contractions toward the experience or people, what is there for us to still embrace fully in unconditional love and acceptance. What comes up that asks for deepening our Self-Alignment?
The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk describes the importance of safety in connection for healing. From our perspective, feeling safe in connection flows naturally when we feel Self-aligned.
Relationships as Mirrors of Recognition
In the Kashmir Shaivism tradition, every relationship may be understood as a form of Ābhāsa, reflection. The world itself is described in the Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam as the reflection of consciousness upon itself. In this view, the people in our lives are not separate from us. They are reflections of aspects of consciousness that are presenting themselves for recognition through the encounter.
In The Doctrine of Vibration, Mark Dyczkowski describes the two aspects of Consciousness, Light and Awareness. "Absolute consciousness understood as the unchanging ontological ground of all appearing is termed 'Prakāśa'. As the creative awareness of its own Being, the absolute is called 'Vimarśa'. Prakāśa and Vimarśa - the Divine Light of consciousness and the reflective awareness this light has of its own nature - together constitute the all-embracing fullness (Pūrṇatā) of consciousness."
Applied to relationships, this may mean that every encounter, every moment of genuine connection, every challenging conversation, is an opportunity to deepen our Self-recognition: to see where the Heart is open and where it holds contractions, and to meet that contraction from a place of knowing, unconditional love and acceptance.
Unconditional acceptance does not mean that we must maintain every relationship or allow everything from others. Unconditional acceptance also includes unconditionally accepting our own boundaries, and honoring what feels in alignment with our inner truth. It may also mean accepting when a situation or a connection with someone no longer feels aligned.
It may mean that the quality of awareness we bring to relationships may transform them: from strategies of survival into spaces of mutual recognition, meaning and alignment.
These practices honor Svātantrya, the innate freedom of your being. These practices are aimed to support moving through relationships with love and acceptance.
Think of a relationship where you experience challenges. Ask yourself the following questions: What is holding me back, what fears do I have, why am I not allowing myself to shine fully and stay in truthful presence? We invite you to meet what comes up with unconditional love and acceptance, embrace these feelings and let them dissolve. This practice may help in gradually dissolving the contractions you experience within this relationship and may deepen the feeling of inner freedom.
Sit quietly and bring to mind someone toward whom you carry resentment. Breathe slowly. On the inhale, breathe in compassion for yourself and for the challenges you have experienced. On the exhale, inwardly release the contraction: "I embrace what has happened and I choose to let this go, for my own freedom." This is not about condoning what happened. It is about returning the Heart to its natural state of unconditional love and acceptance. Repeat this practice as often as it feels supportive.
When you experience boundaries in a relationship as challenging, place one hand on your heart and ask inwardly: "Does this feel aligned?" Allow the body to answer before the mind interprets. If you feel a "No", a next question may be: "Why am I allowing this?" We suggest to meet what comes up with knowing, unconditional love and acceptance. Meeting the contractions, embracing them and let them dissolve. Working through these contractions may gradually deepen our feeling of safety and trust to navigate relationships with clarity and from alignment.
We invite you to consciously acknowledge the great teacher in all. In this way we may integrate the feeling of gratitude and even what we experience to be a most challenging encounter, we may then embrace as a blessing. An experience that presented itself to us to deepen our Self-Recognition, our Self-alignment.
Once a week, tell someone in your life one specific thing you genuinely appreciate about your connection. Be specific rather than general. Specificity communicates that you have truly seen the other person. This practice may nourish both the giver and the receiver and may help in shifting the relational field from one of unconscious expectation to one of conscious appreciation.
The Veils Behind Relational Contraction
Challenges in harmonious relationships and balance may arise from the three malas, the veils of ignorance described in the Kashmir Shaivism tradition.
This veil may create an experience in which we perceive limited wholeness in our capacity to love unconditionally and to embrace ourselves and others with full acceptance. Authentic Self-expression and harmonious relating may not feel like something that flows natural.
This veil may create an experience in which we perceive limited recognition of our underlying unity with others. We may not see what the other reflects back to us, and the inherent oneness within all relating may feel distant rather than recognized.
This veil may create an experience in which we perceive limited trust in how relationships naturally unfold. Forgiveness, acceptance, and the recognition that every encounter may carry a blessing may feel challenging to access.
We suggest to see the patterns that have arisen from these limited perceptions as reflections of what we carry within us. They may be seen as Samskaras, stuck emotions and misaligned beliefs, waiting to be recognized. When met and embraced from a place of knowing, unconditional love and acceptance, they may stream again and dissolve.
How Chakralytics offers to support the deepening of relational harmony
Chakras are commonly known as seven main energy centers that shape our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. While interpretations vary across traditions, we find that this sevenfold framework may offer a powerful lens for deepening Self-awareness and energetic harmonization. Chakralytics seeks to honor and adapt this ancient system for contemporary Self-awareness and energetic insight.
By intuitive self-assessments, Chakralytics generates a dynamic snapshot of your chakra system, according to the Chakralytics Framework. From root to crown. In this way you may discover which centers are thriving, which may need attention, and how your energy evolves over time. Each individual Chakra Assessment focuses on three major themes of our lived experience.
The Chakra Sadhana Course provides a twice daily practice designed to meet, embrace and dissolve stuck energy. Through devotion, Self-love, acceptance, and visualization, you are invited to embrace and dissolve the contractions that obscure your natural radiance. The practice may help in dissolving the three Malas, Self-align, and supporting a deeper recognition of your inherent wholeness.
Works such as Tantra Illuminated, The Recognition Sutras, and The Body Keeps the Score may deepen both the philosophical understanding of relationships as mirrors of recognition and the somatic understanding of how states of contraction or expansion shape our capacity for safety, vulnerability, and genuine connection.
Personal guidance aimed to support you feeling Self-empowered in understanding and in navigating relational patterns, dissolving contractions in the Heart Chakra, and deepening your capacity to love and be loved with expanding freedom and authenticity.
Harmonious Relationships and Balance, through the lens of Kashmir Shaivism, may arise naturally when the Heart Chakra is free from the contractions that obscure the recognition of its essence nature. The heart chakra that has recognized itself as Anahata, unstruck and open, may give without depletion, receive without fear, set boundaries from clarity, and allow love to flow freely through every encounter. Every relationship may then be recognized as what the tradition always suggested it could be: a sacred mirror in which consciousness lovingly recognizes itself.
