The Sanctuary of Being: Environment, Safety, and the Root Chakra

    15 min readEnvironment & Safety

In the journey of Self-discovery, we often look toward the higher realms of spirit, yet the most profound realization begins where our feet touch the ground. In the Chakralytics framework, the first pillar of the Root Chakra is Environment and Safety. This is not merely about the walls around you or the locks on your doors. It is about the energetic resonance between your inner state and your outer surroundings.

The Philosophical View: The Earth as an Expression of the Self

According to the non-dual philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism, the physical world is not seen as an illusion to be renounced. It is seen as an expression of Shakti, the dynamic, creative power of Consciousness. Teachers such as Christopher Wallis describe the manifest world as a real, vibrant expression of the divine, not something separate from spiritual life.

Pṛthvī tattva, The Earth element, is presented at the bottom of the 36 tattvas as the final stage of manifestation. Where in the ultimate reality, or Parama Shiva the entire universe lies as a potency in the hearth of the Supreme, just like the great banyan tree lies only in the form of potency in the seed. The 36th tattva is the "thatness" or "level of reality" where all the potentialities inherent in the Divine are fully expressed. Where we may perceive the infinite as solid, stable, and tangible. This is the final point in the descent of the thirty-six tattvas, a process described in texts such as the , Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam by Jaideva Singh and explained in Tantra Illuminated by Christopher Wallis.

When we talk about Environment and Safety, we are looking at the mirror of pratyabhijñā, the Recognition of the Self as Consciousness. If you perceive your environment as threatening or unstable, the Shaiva lens gently asks: What aspect of your own infinite stability is being veiled? Safety is not only something that happens to us. It is a quality of Being that we project into our space.

When you say, "I create moments of peace within my living space," you are practicing the art of reclaiming your environment as an extension of your own peaceful nature. This is the essence of the Recognition teachings found in the Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam and The Recognition Sutras.

Understanding the Inquiry: The Data of Safety

Your Chakralytics assessment asks seventeen questions regarding Environment and Safety. These questions serve as a Mirror of Inquiry to help you identify where your energy is leaking into fear. They cluster into three dimensions.

    1. Perceived Safety & Self-Security

Questions like "My home feels like a safe and nurturing space" or "I know I have a safe space to return to" measure your ability to establish a Home Frequency.

In Shaivism, the True Home is the Heart, hṛdaya, the center of undivided awareness. Texts such as The Triadic Heart of Śiva describe the Heart as the metaphysical core, the place where all dualities dissolve. If your physical home feels chaotic, it may reflect a difficulty in returning to the stillness of the inner Heart during challenging times.

    2. Foundation and Centeredness

Life is inherently unpredictable. Questions such as "I remain centered even when life feels unpredictable" or "I feel rooted and secure in unfamiliar situations" measure your Environmental Resilience.

From the view of the Masters, the only true safety is found in the recognition that the Self is the Unmoving Mover, the still center of Spanda, the divine pulsation described in the Spanda Kārikās and elaborated by scholars like Mark Dyczkowski. When you are centered in this recognition, the unpredictable world is seen as the playful dance, līlā, of Consciousness. An unfoldment of consciousness, a reflection of our inner world.

    3. Earth Element Connection

The question "I feel deeply connected to the Earth element", we could take it as literal, but we may also approach this from a consciousness perspective. Observing the Earth element and connect and align with its qualities. What does the Earth element stand for? What does the planet earth represent symbolically? Focusing on the semantic meaning of the Earth element. Grounding is the process of aligning your Self with the qualities of this Earth Element. When this connection is strong, the body and nervous system relax.

Practical Supportive Suggestions for Environment & Safety

While the ultimate aim is inner realization, Kashmir Shaivism honors the physical. The tradition does not reject the world or the body. It invites us to recognize them as sacred expressions of Consciousness. To improve your Environment and Safety score, you may implement practical measures that harmonize your outer space.

    Sanctify Your Space

If you lack a sense of nurturing space, create a dedicated area for stillness. Even a small corner with a candle or a plant may act as a physical anchor for your intention to be at peace. This echoes the Tantric emphasis on consecrated space found in the Agamas and the .

    Boundary Rituals

The assessment asks if you honor your boundaries to protect your sense of safety. Practice saying no to environmental inputs such as news, social media, or social circles that aren't serving your Self-Alignment process. This is a modern expression of maintaining the sanctity of your inner shrine.

    Earth Immersion

To improve your connection to the Earth element, you may engage in earthing, such as walking barefoot on grass or soil. Or gardening, physically connecting with the earth element and purposefully engaging and bathing yourself in its qualities. This kind of grounding is supported by modern trauma research such as The Body Keeps the Score, which highlights how the nervous system requires felt safety.

    Routine as Ritual

Ritual may breed a sense of safety. Establishing a rhythmic daily routine creates a steady foundation that mirrors the reliable cycles of Nature. This reflects the Tantric honoring of rhythm, repetition, and sacred routine, themes found in The Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra and the Spanda teachings.

Addressing the Root Cause: Dissolving the Veils of Fear

While practical tips can be helpful and may help in dissolving feelings of fear, for deep transformation we do suggest addressing the root cause: the underlying fears and belief systems that create the experience of insecurity.

In the Kashmir Shaivism view, insecurity is a Veil of Ignorance, āṇava mala. It is the contraction that makes you feel small, separate, and incomplete, as described in the Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam, Tantra Illuminated and in works by Swami Lakshmanjoo. This belief creates a frozen state of consciousness, stuck emotions that keep the nervous system in high alert.

    The Four Pathways of Support

How Chakralytics offers to provide support in dissolving these veils.

    1. Chakralytics Self-Assessment Tool

Chakras are commonly known as seven main energy centers that shape our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. While interpretations vary across traditions, we find that this sevenfold framework may offer a powerful lens for self-awareness and energetic harmonization. Chakralytics seeks to honor and adapt this ancient system for contemporary self-awareness and energetic insight.

By intuitive self-assessments, Chakralytics generates a dynamic snapshot of your chakra system, according to the Chakralytics Framework. From root to crown. In this way you may discover which centers are thriving, which may need attention, and how your energy evolves over time. Each individual Chakra Assessment focuses on three major themes of our lived experience.

    2. The Chakra Sadhana Course: Releasing Stuck Emotions

If your score shows that you do not feel emotionally steady during change, it is likely that past experiences of instability are stuck in your energetic body.

Our approach: provides a twice daily ritual designed to move this stuck energy. Through devotion, self-love and acceptance and targeted visualization, you embrace and dissolve contractions/stuck emotions/samskaras and mis-aligned belief systems. Allowing you to remember and rest in the natural sense of safety that is always present underneath the contractions — it's a natural quality of our being. To deepen your trust, The Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra is filled with 112 doorways to stillness. Our sadhana weaves in these practices to remind you that safety is already your nature.

    3. The Garden of Teachings: Self Study (Svadhyaya)

Fear often thrives in the dark. By reading books about the nature of reality and the Self, you help illuminate the mind. And even when your mind doesn't understand it yet, your Self will recognize truth and start remembering.

Our approach: We have curated a , a selection of books that explain the non-dual nature of existence. When you understand that you are not separate from the world, the world ceases to feel like a threat. This Self-study may help with dissolving the ignorance that says you are unprotected.

We might suggest works such as:

Each of these texts deepens the understanding that your true nature is already whole, stable, and safe.

    4. One to One Coaching: Guided Illumination

Sometimes the feeling of helplessness is so deep that we're not feeling able to see the steady foundation beneath us.

Our approach: Through one-to-one coaching, we like to provide a mirror for your experience. A teacher or guide may serve as a living transmission of stability. By reflecting together, we aim to help you identify the contractions preventing you from feeling safe, practical protection boundaries that may help you to set, and guide you back to your own inner guide: the only one who can truly provide an inner sense of safety that is not dependent on outside circumstances.

Conclusion: Deepening our Self-Sufficiency in Safety

The ultimate goal of the Environment and Safety pillar is to reach the state where you can say with total honesty: "I feel a strong and steady foundation beneath my life."

This foundation is not built on money, the perfect house, or a stable political climate. It is built on the Recognition of your own nature. As you Self-align, may it be through Sadhana, study, and inquiry, you may recognize your Self-sufficiency. You may realize that you are the Earth, you are the Foundation, and you are the Safety you have been seeking.

When you rest in this state, your very presence becomes a safe space for others. You move through the day with a sense of calm and trust, because you have recognized who you truly are.
