In the Chakralytics journey, we have explored how we experience our environment & safety and how financially safe and stable we feel. Now, we arrive at a very intimate mirror of our consciousness: the physical body. In the Root Chakra (Muladhara), Physical Health & Vitality is the pillar that measures how we inhabit our form, how we listen to its wisdom, and how we allow the life force to sustain us.
In the luminous tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, the body is not seen as a mere vessel but a living temple. An expression of the infinite, pulsing with the creative freedom (svātantrya) of Consciousness itself. Physical health and vitality are not isolated phenomena but the embodied radiance of our Chakras, with a main focus on the Root Chakra (Mūlādhāra), the foundational center where the earth element, somatic intelligence, and the embracement of being converge. This article refines and validates the metaphysical, somatic, and energetic dimensions of Root Chakra alignment through the lens of classical Shaiva sources: the Pratyabhijñā-hṛdaya (The Recognition Sūtras), Śiva Sūtras, Spanda Kārikās, Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra, , the oral and written transmissions of the lineage: especially as interpreted by Christopher Wallis, Jaideva Singh, Swami Lakshmanjoo, and Mark Dyczkowski, and Self-inquiry and direct experience.
This article explores how physical health, vitality, and somatic presence are not merely outcomes of Root Chakra "balance," but living expressions of the recognition (pratyabhijñā) of our true nature as Śiva, embodied and awake at the root of being. Each claim and practice is validated against primary Shaiva sources and Databration's curated booklist, intent to ensure both philosophical rigor and practical authenticity.
Kashmir Shaivism, or Trika Śaivism, is a non-dual (advaita) tradition that affirms the absolute unity of consciousness (cit) and its dynamic power (śakti). The universe, including the body and its energetic centers, is a manifestation of the free, creative will (svātantrya) of Śiva. The thirty-six tattvas (principles) map the descent of consciousness from the pure, undifferentiated Absolute (Śiva-Śakti) to the densest form of consciousness (pṛthivī, earth), which is the domain of the Root Chakra.
Here, the body is not separate from the Divine; it is the Divine in its most condensed and tangible form. From this perspective, health is not about following a rigid set of external rules or achieving a "perfect" aesthetic. Instead, it is an expression of Svātantrya (Absolute Freedom). True health is this freedom to experience life, without veils of tension or disconnection. When your assessment asks, "I experience physical ease and spaciousness in my body," it is inquiring into your ability to feel the expansive nature of Consciousness within your own body.
The 17 questions in this section of the assessment are looking at three specific layers of the physical experience:
Questions such as "I feel content with the way I nourish my body" and "I feel at peace with my current sleep rhythm" are not about calories or hours. They are about Self-Attunement. Do you attend to your own needs? Are you offering yourself what you need to remain a clear channel for life force, or are you acting out of habit and pressure?
Statements like "My body feels strong, resilient, and alive" and "My body recovers well after effort" may reflect your sense of Rootedness. Just as a tree with deep roots can withstand a storm, a grounded body rebounds from stress with ease. This physical resilience mirrors the inner stability at the core of being rooted.
These questions reflect on how willing you are to accept your body as a teacher; these involve how you handle discomfort: "I notice stress in my body and respond with care" or "I am aware of tension and respond with compassion." This is the practice of Recognition. Instead of seeing pain as an "enemy" to be suppressed, you may see it as a "signal" from the Self, asking for alignment. It involves acceptance of what is and responding with compassion, instead forcing your body.
To improve your score in Physical Health & Vitality, we move away from "prescriptions" and toward "participation" with the body.
An invitation to pause multiple times a day. Close your eyes and ask, "Where am I holding tension?" and "What is my body telling me right now?", "What do I need right now?" This builds the "Compassionate Witness" required to respond with care rather than reactivity.
The assessment highlights resting "without guilt or pressure." We invite you to make rest a non-negotiable part of your "Stability Strategy." We may see rest as a return to the source. Attuning to Cit Ananda. Letting it fill you up with energy, revitalizing. Which we could see as essential for the "Shining Forth" of energy.
Engagement with the physical world through movement (walking, stretching, dancing, Yoga asanas, gardening). We invite you to discover movement that feels in alignment with how your being urges to express itself. It should feel like "playing with energy." The movement feels energizing, you feel "alive" during the movement. When your activity feels like a "chore," you might not be operating from alignment with your Svātantrya (complete freedom).
What do we refer to with the fear of inhabitation? It refers to the subtle (or not-so-subtle) fear of fully living inside your own body: physically, emotionally, energetically.
People may experience:
In other words, it refers to the hesitation to occupy your own physical space with confidence and presence.
Why Fear of inhabitation may show up: It can arise from past overwhelm or chronic stress, feeling unsafe in past/childhood environments, trauma stored in the body, cultural conditioning that prioritizes mind over body, or spiritual paths that unintentionally encourage disembodiment.
We may see it as a protective strategy the system learned. An interesting book we suggest on Brain, Mind and Body in the Healing of trauma, is The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, M.D.
In our Rootedness framework, Rootedness is essentially about feeling at home in the body, trusting your physical signals, recovering well from stress, and being grounded, stable, and present. We may see Fear of inhabitation as the shadow side of Rootedness, the place where someone hasn't yet fully embraced their physical presence.
The root cause of physical ill-health or low vitality is often an underlying disconnection: a "Veil of Ignorance" that tells us we are not safe in our own skin. This may manifest as chronic tension, "numbness" to physical signals, or a feeling of being a "floating head" disconnected from the body.
To embrace your vitality, we suggest doing inner work. Working through past experiences of Trauma or Samskaras. Dissolving the stuck emotions that have become contracted in your body.
In the Chakralytics methodology, we view physical illness not as a mechanical failure or a stroke of bad luck, but as a profound act of communication from the Self. Within the non-dual framework, we may say there is no "inside" and "outside". There is only a continuum of vibration. When an imbalance persists at the level of consciousness or "stuck" emotions, it may "condense" into the physical form as a symptom or disease.
When the Root Chakra is misaligned, the body may speak through the systems associated with our foundation, our boundaries, and our connection to the Earth element.
For example: the Feet: Sensitivities such as eczema on the feet or chronic fungal infections may be a direct reflection of a struggle with "Grounding", feeling "Unsafe" or feeling "Unsupported". I have many of these examples based on direct experience. Anodea Judith mentions the link between chakra imbalances and physical ailments in her book: Anodea Judith's Chakra Yoga.
With Chakralytics it is our intent to perform explorative research on the relation between our inner experience and physical disease. As a member you are invited to add to this research by contributing your assessment results and filling in any physical diseases you were experiencing at the moment of taking the assessment.
Our core belief is that the physical body is a reflection. Therefore, when we engage in the deep inner work of dissolving the veils of ignorance and releasing the contractions of stuck emotions, the physical manifestation will lose its reason for being. By aligning with your fundamental nature: the radiant, healthy state of Shiva-Shakti, the "static" of disease can begin to dissolve.
How Chakralytics offers to provide support in dissolving the disconnection.
Chakras are commonly known as seven main energy centers that shape our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. While interpretations vary across traditions, we find that this sevenfold framework may offer a powerful lens for self-awareness and energetic harmonization. Chakralytics seeks to honor and adapt this ancient system for contemporary self-awareness and energetic insight.
By intuitive self-assessments, Chakralytics generates a dynamic snapshot of your chakra system, according to the Chakralytics Framework. From root to crown. In this way you may discover which centers are thriving, which may need attention, and how your energy evolves over time. Each individual Chakra Assessment focuses on three major themes of our lived experience.
This online course offers a grounded and experiential approach to Chakra Sadhana; a meditative practice rooted in classical tantric traditions and adapted for modern emotional and energetic healing. Designed as a daily ritual, it supports individuals seeking to release stuck emotions, restore energetic flow, and cultivate inner harmony.
By practicing Chakra Sadhana regularly, participants may experience:
This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners who value a contemplative, evidence-informed approach to inner work. It complements tools like Chakralytics but stands independently as a complete practice.
In times of inner transformation, it's not uncommon to find ourselves drawn to companions: words that resonate, wisdom that roots us, and teachings that may support in gently deepening Self-Understanding. A Garden of Teachings is a curated space for self-study, where each book is chosen with the aim to support your journey of Self-Alignment, inner clarity, and conscious living.
Sometimes, trauma or long-term stress makes it feel unsafe to "be" in the body. In 1-to-1 coaching, we provide a safe, compassionate space to explore the signals your body is sending. The intent is to help you rest in your body and deepen self-trust.
We may provide guidance in navigating the "physical ease and spaciousness" that is your birthright. A teacher may help you hear the signals your body is sending, and provide guidance on moving you back to a state of being "at home in your own body."
The ultimate goal of the "Physical Health & Vitality" pillar in Chakralytics is Spaciousness. It is the freedom to move around and live the life that is in alignment with your path. It is the state where your body is no longer a "problem to be solved," but a "Supportive Temple".
When the Root Chakra is aligned, you move through life with a body that supports you. You may feel "content," "energized," and "resilient", not because you followed a strict set of rules, but because you recognized your Self as the source of your own life force. We see this as a true meaning of Svātantrya: the freedom to be fully, vibrantly, and physically alive and live our physical experience unobstructed.
